In the year 2016, Zverev’s first ATP event was the Australian Open, where he had a draw against No.2 Andy Murray.

He upset No.13 Marin Cilic during the singles event, in the highest-ranked played he had defeated in the match.

He upset Top No.5 Rafael Nadal in the fourth round in 2016. At the St. Petersburg Open, and later the US Open, Zverev returned to Europe and won his first career ATP title.

He noted his first victory over No. 9 Berdych in the semifinals and defeated Stan Wawrinka in the final, coming back from 0–3 down in the third set.

He was grouped with Marin Cilic, Roger Federer, and Jack Sock at the ATP Finals in 2017.
