Luck finally went local trainer Daniel Bowman’s way in Wednesday’s Listed Wangoom Handicap (1200m) at Warrnambool.
Bowman lamented his luck in previous years after stable recruit Outlaws Revenge raced on the pace before holding on to beat last year’s winner Frankie Pinot and the Lindsey Smith-trained Sacred Palace.
“I don’t train jumpers so this and the (Warrnambool) Cup are target races,” Bowman said.
“I’ve had shocking luck in this race. I had the second favourite one year who had a temperature the night before.
“Scratched (Group 1 winner) Begoodtoyamother last year. I can’t thank the owners enough for giving me the opportunity.”
Outlaws Revenge only joined Bowman’s stable for his previous outing at Sandown after winning seven of his previous 24 starts for Adelaide trainer Ryan Balfour.
Bowman hailed Balfour’s work with Outlaws Revenge.
“The horse came to be in unbelievable order,” Bowman said.
“Ryan’s team have done a huge job and I’ve been in the same position.
“It feels disgusting to lose a good horse like that.”
“You can’t win races if you haven’t got the stock so it is good to show everyone once again that if I’ve got the stock I can do the job.”
Outlaws Revenge gave Yendall his third Wangoom Handicap win.
Yendall said the five-year-old wasn’t entirely happy in the Heavy 10 conditions but gave his all when asked in the straight.
“When I asked for an effort he gave me everything he had,” Yendall said.
“The last little bit he started to go forward and it was getting a bit hard on this heavy stuff.”
