Young Dylan is a star in the making!
The 11-year-old Maryland native first caught the attention of Ellen DeGeneres back in 2018 with his killer rap skills, and ever since he made his Ellen debut, we knew big things were ahead for him.
After making multiple appearances on the daytime talk show, Young Dylan, whose real name is Dylan Gilmer, eventually caught the attention of actor and executive producer Tyler Perry. Perry believed in him so much that he created a show on Nickelodeon just for the 11-year-old, appropriately titled Tyler Perry’s Young Dylan.
Check out Dylan’s reaction below:
Calling the whole experience a “dream,” the series follows Gilmer’s character Young Dylan, whose grandmother decides to send him to live indefinitely with her affluent son’s family. The Wilson family household is soon turned upside down as lifestyles clash between aspiring hip hop star and his straight-laced cousins.
Filmed at Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, Tyler Perry’s Young Dylan also stars Martin alum Carl Anthony Payne II, Mieko Hillman (Teen Wolf), Celina Smith, Hero Hunter (The Purge) and Aloma Wright (Scrubs). It premiered back in February to over 2.6 million people on Nickelodeon, proving that Young Dylan is poised to be the industry’s next big star.
Check out the premiere episode below:
These days, Dylan tells Celeb Secrets that he’s staying busy in the pandemic by helping front line workers, speaking out for social justice on his social media, playing football and making new raps, all while finishing online school (when it’s in session, of course).
