In tonight’s Law & Order: Organized Crime episode, Detective Jamie Whelan was undercover with a gang unit out of Havana. He was acting as the getaway driver. He ditched his wire before he got into a car with some of those people. His backup became worried for him. They started to follow him in their car and they were spotted. The people Jamie was with had noticed the car. They realized the cops were following them. Their solution was to shoot their w

ay out and Jamie saved them all by pulling off a daring move that allowed them to ditch his backup with no one getting hurt. And after he did that, Jamie was able to convince Bernanda and Cristobal to let him meet the boss.

They gave him directions to the restaurant. They led him to a backroom where they introduced him to their boss and Jamie then proceeded to tick the guy off. It also didn’t help that Detective Reyes pretended to be a drunk patron wandering around for the bathroom. Both men got kicked out of the restaurant.

Jamie wanted the chance to go back in and Stabler pulled the plug on that. Stabler said there was a better way to win the trust of these Cubans. He faked shooting Jamie’s cover. He then walked into Duran’s restaurant with two bags of cash and that helped get him introduced to the boss.

It was a familiar play. But Jamie hadn’t liked it. Jamie felt he could still have used his cover to get close to the gang again and he also thought Stabler was cutting him out to steal all the glory. It’s not the first time that Stabler went in undercover. He’s known for it. He loves that part of the job and his skill at it can sometimes feel daunting to people who want to be him. Jamie joined this unit because he wanted to learn from Stabler. He wanted to work with Stabler. Then he got pulled out of a job for going half-cocked and everyone was telling him that he wouldn’t have gotten pulled if he hadn’t ditched his wire.

Jamie wasn’t being searched or questioned. He ditched his wife because he wanted to take a risk and that risk didn’t work out. Something that Jamie wasn’t ready to accept just yet. He still fell in line and backed Stabler when approached Duran. He stayed at the station. He was there when the two detectives from Miami came to help. Detectives Lowry and Martinez were pursuing a case against Duran. He had already taken over down there and now he was making a move to take over New York. Everyone wanted to stop him, but it became personal for Stabler because his friend’s bodega was targeted by Duran’s people.

Stabler’s friend is okay. The whole thing just shows that Duran was trying to carve a place for himself in New York. Duran later told Stabler to come back with twice the money as before and they could do business together. Stabler’s people had a hard time getting that money. But they got it in the end. They got it and Stabler went back to Duran’s restaurant. He found Cristobal badly beaten up. It seems that Cristobal’s men from Miami had gotten into it with another gang and Duran got angry because that was bringing unwanted attention to what they were doing. So, Stabler was helping Cristobal back on his feet when they got raided.

The Miami detectives started to arrest everyone with the DEA Agents. They thought they were securing a drug bust and it wasn’t that. Duran is too smart to have drugs at his restaurant. If the Miami guys had come to Stabler before doing this, he could have told them it was a wasted trip. They’ve spooked Duran. He was going to lay low before going on the run and so Stabler’s ploy was out the window. He can no longer be a buyer. He can go back to being a cop, but Stabler later confronted Jamie. He asked Jamie if he was the one that told the Miami guys about the restaurant. And Jamie said it wasn’t him.

Only Stabler didn’t really believe him. He asked him if this was a glory thing and Jamie got in Stabler’s face about how that was his territory because Stabler pushes in on other people. They were both told to stop it by their boss. They also came together to raid some of Duran’s other properties and that’s where they found Bernanda. Bernanda was one of Duran’s lieutenants. She was told that New York would be hers to run, but Duran never planned on giving her New York. He was going to give it to his family and so Bernanda chose to turn on her boss. She went to his house wearing a wire and she tried to convince him to incriminate himself and he saw right through that.

Duran refused to admit he was in the drug business and so Bernanda shot him. She killed him. She’ll go to jail for the drug dealing and the murder and that will be it for the case. But Jamie and Stabler are still on the outs. Jamie felt Stabler kept punishing him for removing the wire and Stabler felt Jamie was taking this too personally.

THE END!
